This dissertation examines the formative and interformative dynamics of one's struggle in identifying and affirming his or her calling in life. The calling that is focussed in this study is that of one's felt desire for a life-style of social presence. The struggles seen as formative and interformative dynamics are put under two categories: depletion and repletion of social presence. A person in his or her desire for a style of life dedicated for the uplifting of others has to be, from a distinctively human point of view, rooted in the transcendent mystery: It is when this rootedness is lacking that one's social dedication runs into difficulties. The issues that anyone may have to deal with at the very outset of social dedication are termed here as the first stage of formative depletion of social presence. The issues researched are those which have roots in initial formation, i.e., the issues underlying one's lack of consonance of congeniality, compatibility, competence and compassion, and lack of confirmation experienced from mentors or form traditional representatives. It is also demonstrated that persons to be consonantly dedicated to social presence must move from the disposition of depreciative abandonment to appreciative abandonment option and disposition whereby they would experience social presence repletion. Thus the study effectively shows that those who identify and affirm their call to a life style of social concern will be people who come to feel a genuine, effective, and well-informed will to assist others in their self-formation and its facilitating conditions. In a world of numerous social reformers, the study asks basic questions and points the way to right direction for personal and social reformation and transformation.
